Thor Motor Coach introduced a new 34SS Daybreak motorhome floor plan with an innovative exterior kitchen at the recent Timonium RV show in Maryland.
“We’ve seen an explosion of outside kitchens on towable products, but nothing from motorhome manufacturers. This new upscale exterior kitchen design fits our motorhome demographic,” said Mike Peterson, product manager for the Daybreak.
The Daybreak 34SS floor plan launched with an optional fully functional exterior kitchen on the camp-side of the coach. It features a 15,000 BTU easy clean stainless steel LP grill, 19-inch widescreen HD TV and a 4.6 cubic foot mini fridge. Another industry first for a motorhome is the integrated single bowl sink that drains just like the interior sinks into the grey water holding tank and not on the ground.
The Daybreak 34SS comes standard with an oversized camp-side exterior compartment with the VersaTrac(c) modular storage system.

Gulf Stream’s Visa, Gulf Breeze and Streamlite towables, originally certified green to the Silver level have upgraded their certification level to Gold, TRA Certification announced today.
By making some adjustments in the categories of resource efficiency and water efficiency, these towables were able to improve their level of green performance.
The Visa towables incorporate LED exterior lights and use a lightweight composite material for the walls and cabinets. When it comes to fuel economy, the lighter the better, said Mandy Leazenby, Green Program manager at TRA Certification.
Look for the “certified green” labels on RVs to ensure a healthier and more sustainable product, she explained.

As part of its focus on providing products that offer owners economical and memorable camping experiences, Starcraft RV today announced the introduction of a new camping trailer, the Starflyer.
The 2012 Starflyer is designed to help consumers move up from tent camping in an enjoyable yet affordable manner.
“The Starflyer is an entry-level camping trailer that is perfect for the first-time buyer,” said Jim Jacobs, general manager for Starcraft RV. “We work very hard to provide our customers with pure, simple camping products. This camping trailer is a prime example of providing the basic essentials without high impact on the family budget.”
Easy to set up and take down, the Starflyer is offered in both 8 and 10-foot floorplans. The unit is light weight (the 8-foot model starts with a dry weight of 985 pounds), and can be easily towed by most family vehicles, said Jacobs.
Standard equipment on the 2012 Starflyer includes domed, fiberglass roof with no center seam; corrosion-resistant frame; aluminum exterior sidewalls; and mildew-resistant aluminum ceiling. In addition, the unit has prepped access for 110-volt power; pre-wired for battery hookup; 12-volt lighting; booth dinette with inside/outside dinette table; non-sliding cushions for dinette with reversible EZ-clean vinyl backs; lots of interior storage and two rear stabilizer jacks.
Backed by Starcraft’s one-year warranty, the well-built, entry-level Starflyer fits well within Starcraft’s line of camping trailers, said Jacobs.
“Our goal is always to provide our consumers with a quality camping product at an attractive price,” he added. “The new Starflyer is a fantastic introductory product for the family that is just starting out on their camping adventures.”

A new RV manufacturer headed by an industry veteran is set to make a splash with its first product launch of lightweight travel trailers and a multi-purpose hauler -- the “American Spirit,” the “Canadian Spirit” and the “Bandit APH.”
President Mike Scheetz, of Echo Manufacturing, recently announced the new products, designed to be affordable and lightweight for those wanting to haul and camp for less.
The Bandit is a hauler with 19-, 24- and 32-foot floorplans, The American Spirit, and Canadian Spirit are travel trailers with six floorplans ranging from 19 to 27 feet. Production of these products is now under way and the first units have arrived on dealer lots.
Noting the Bandit’s 19-foot model’s base weight of 3,350 pounds and carrying capacity of 3,270 pounds, Scheetz said, it’s a hauler that can almost carry its own weight while being towed by a half-ton pickup or SUV.
This allows plenty of “stuff” to come along for recreational activities, from tailgate parties to ATV excursions. It can also double as a work vehicle for construction projects and the like, all while providing comfortable RV living facilities.
The two “Spirits’ ” weight range is from 2,939 pounds to 4,257 pounds.
“We’re building small, lightweight, and proven floorplans that the customers want," said Scheetz. "Not a lot of gadgets or glitz, just good, usable trouble-free products at the best price.”
“Our game plan at Echo is to be a small but responsive RV manufacturer dedicated to giving the retail customer what they want in a quality product at a good price,” said Scheetz. “We highly value our reputation and our integrity. We want to do right by the customer both in our product offerings and in our after-sales support. We stand behind everything we do.
“We also think it important to listen to dealers and RVers about what people want to buy, rather than go with what we want to sell them," he added. "We intend to be very active in bringing new and innovative products to the RV market, but they must be products that we know the retail customer wants. To do this means, among other things, developing a close partnership with our dealers, who are on the front lines of RV sales.
“Right now we’re building a network of dealers that share our core values,” Scheetz explained. “We want dealers who stand behind what they sell. We want RVers talking positively about us around the campfire.”
Echo will provide sales and service throughout all of the United States and Canada.

Newmar Corporation, the Indiana-based manufacturer of Class A Motorhomes and fifth wheels, has released the names of its dealers who are being recognized for providing excellent customer service over the past year.
The Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Award is presented to dealers who scored in a pre-determined percentile based on results from customer surveys. Fifteen Newmar dealers earned this coveted award by providing excellent customer service to Newmar customers receiving warranty work.
Mount Comfort RV in Greenfield was one of 12 dealers receiving the award.
“Newmar feels this award is important because we value how our mutual customers are treated and that the service experience is a positive one,” said Matt Utley, Newmar’s vice president of service operations. “Newmar is pleased with the customer support provided by our dealer partners. As confirmed by their customers, the dealers earning this award possess a strong commitment of customer satisfaction that permeates through their entire organization.
New Firewood Restrictions at DNR Sites

The Indiana Natural Resources Commission recently approved a new policy to manage firewood use at state properties and also set in motion a proposal to make it a permanent rule.
The two-step approach will allow the Department of Natural Resources to implement the change this year while the proposed permanent measure works its way through the normal nine- to 12-month rulemaking process that will include a public comment period.
The intent of both steps is to protect resources on state properties against the spread of emerald ash borer, gypsy moth, Asian longhorned beetle, and other pests and pathogens that can be transported in firewood.
Effective immediately, visitors will be allowed to bring firewood to DNR properties only under certain circumstances. Bundled firewood must have a U.S. Department of Agriculture or Indiana state certification compliance stamp, be purchased from an on-site concessionaire or the DNR property, or be kiln-dried construction lumber. An exception allows visitors to bring uncertified firewood so long as the bark is removed before entering the DNR property.
In other actions, the NRC:
--Approved state nature preserve designation for two sites at Harmonie State Park in southwest Indiana. Wabash Border Nature Preserve is a 254.62-acre tract on the north side of the park, and Harmonie Hills Nature Preserve is a 334.79-acre tract in the southern portion. Both sites have high-quality forests and are home to state-endangered plant or fish species.
--Adopted a preliminary rule to allow horse tag use on designated properties to be year round rather than the current April through November time frame.
--Repealed a non-rule policy regarding disposition of permanently injured, non-releasable animals taken in by licensed wildlife rehabilitators due to previous NRC approval of administrative rule changes governing the same topic.
--Approved the appointment of Lynda Ellington as assistant property manager at Shakamak State Park.
The NRC's next meeting is May 17 at Pokagon State Park.

DNR Launches iPhone App

People who enjoy any of the DNR's wide variety of properties across Indiana and own an iPhone can benefit from a new phone application.
The application can be downloaded at no cost to the user at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/indiana-dnr/id395591679?mt=8.
The DNR iPhone app provides virtually all the information needed when planning an outdoor activity at one of these sites. DNR properties include fish and wildlife areas, forests, historic sites, state park inns, and nature preserves, as well as 24 state parks and eight reservoirs.
"Indiana has a great wealth of natural and cultural resources, and we are always looking for new ways to connect Hoosiers to those resources," said Dan Bortner, director of the DNR Division of State Parks and Reservoirs. "We're glad to be a part of DNR's efforts to use today's technology."
The Indiana DNR iPhone application features:

Location mapping for state parks, where to hunt or fish, and additional properties of interest
Distances to park or fishing/hunting areas in relation to the user's current location
Fees and regulations for all state properties and outdoor recreation sites
Links to camping or state park inn reservation sites
Links to fishing or hunting license purchasing sites
    Reserved hunt registration
Nature brochures and Indiana fishing species guide
RSS feeds of Indiana DNR news
    Links to Indiana DNR websites

DNR director of communications Phil Bloom said this is one more example of the many options of staying informed about DNR activities.
"We live in an increasingly mobile society in which people have a variety of ways to gather the information they need," he said. "This continues DNR's effort to stay connected with our customers and for our customers to stay connected to us."

The application was developed by the DNR Web team in the Division of Communications and Indiana Interactive. They welcome user feedback about the app, which should be sent to dnrwebmaster@dnr.IN.gov. Applications for Blackberry and Android phones are under development.

Just in time for the coming of spring weather, the DNR's improved reservation system for camping, cabins, recreation buildings and shelters is now available.
Going to www.Camp.IN.Gov allows customers to select preferred amenities and use an easy-to-read availability calendar and interactive campground maps. Eventually, photographs of campsites will be added.
Making the improvements required a system interruption that started Feb. 8. All of the inventory that would have been listed as open during that period is available now on the site. Labor Day camping inventory will become available via the call center and website at noon on Wednesday, March 2.
The State Park Inns/Lodges, whose www.indianainns.com was not affected by the shutdown, is also available for reservations for rooms and cabins via that website or by calling 1-877-LODGES1 (1-877-563-4371).
Annual entrance passes for state parks can be purchased in person at the gatehouse or offices of state park and reservoir properties during business hours, at the Indiana Government Center South in Indianapolis, or at innsgifts.com.
Indiana resident passes are $36 or $18 for individuals 65 years old or older. Annual passes for vehicles with out-of-state license plates are $46. Normal daily gate fees for residents at most properties are $5 per vehicle. For more information on Indiana State Parks and Reservoirs, see stateparks.IN.gov.

When you pull off the highway and head into your favorite campground, you can to tune in the latest Internet program -- "The RV Chef."
RV Chef is produced for RVers to show that food on the road does not have to be fast or mediocre. With some planning and preparation, wonderful meals are no further away than the picnic table.
As the producer and chef, George Murphy has gained a lot of experience in the 25 years he's been RVing.

"We hope to produce one program every week or so that will run from 5 to 8 minutes and will show the viewer how to make wonderful food within the confines of their RV. It won't be complicated but will be a lot of fun," says Murphy.
RV Chef will also touch on the RV lifestyle and offer tips and suggestions to better enjoy your RV. It will provide an excellent source of information for the experienced RVer, the first-time buyer and renter.
"Mainly, it's all about the food," says Murphy. "After all, who can resist 'falling off the bone' BBQ or fresh Navajo fried bread or shrimp-stuffed mushrooms."
RV Chef is shot inside of Murphy's 5th wheel trailer and may at times utilize his outdoor grill. RV tips and information will not be specific to a brand or dealership. The show is all about supporting the RV lifestyle and of course, the food. RVers will be able to watch videos directly at RVChef.com by clicking here.

Monaco RV recently announced the debut of the new Holiday Rambler Aluma-Lite 31SFD Class C.
This small–in-stature model is a crossover of a Class C and Class A floorplan. The expansive 23-foot full-wall slideout floorplan provides the roominess of a Class A layout by enormously enlarging the living, kitchen and bedroom space. The full-wall slideout also provides a private bath, with dual private entrances through bedroom or hall, an option usually only found in Class A models, said Scott Jacobson, national sales manager for Holiday Rambler.
“No other manufacturer is offering this type of crossover, with a Class A floorplan on a Class C chassis," he added. “The Aluma-Lite 31SFD is part of Holiday Rambler’s new direction, as we develop floorplans with more functional spaces in smaller, less expensive models.”
The family-friendly, easy to maneuver Holiday Rambler Aluma-Lite 31SFD is built on the Ford E-Series Chassis with E450 engine. For improved fuel economy, the Aluma-Lite front cap is aerodynamically designed to reduce wind turbulence and drag. The battery access is built into the entryway for easy maintenance, along with a 5,000 pound hitch for towing.
Along with the large full-wall slideout, the Aluma-Lite 31SFD is also built with large size features. A king-size 51-gallon fresh water tank allows for extended camping capabilities, a critical component with today’s RVers, said Jacobson. The extra-large exterior bay stores all equipment in a central, convenient location.
Entry into the Aluma-Lite is made easy with an extra-wide entrance door. Inside, Class A-style features make the Aluma-Lite feel spacious. The full-wall slideout allows for an expansive kitchen boasting a booth dinette with a pop-up 26-inch TV with lift in a dinette console, making it storable when not in use.

PROVO, Utah -- The Fastway Flip, from Progress Manufacturing, was awarded the Best New Product of 2010 recently at the NTP Distribution show.
The Flip jack foot eliminates the hassles of storing and stacking wood blocks, or finding a place to store a removable extension. There is no kneeling on the ground, because no springs, cables, or pins are required.
The device bolts quickly and easily to an existing jack, giving users an automatic 6-inch extension that locks into place when extended, and folds up out of the way when retracted.
“We are thrilled with the success we’ve seen in the past year with the Flip,” said Rich Elliott, sales director at Progress Mfg. Inc. “The Flip has been well received into the market and is getting noticed for the many benefits it offers our customers.”
The Flip has also received several other awards, including SEMA Best New Van/Pickup/Sport-Utility Product. The Flip display came in as a runner-up in the SEMA Best New Merchandising Display category, and it was awarded second place in the new product display at the North American Trailer Dealers Association (NATDA) trade show.
The Fastway brand trailer products are designed to provide customers with fast and easy ways to finish tedious towing chores, the company said in a press release.

NADA Improves RV Sections

NADAguides, a comprehensive vehicle data and information provider on the Internet and already a dominant and a relied-upon resource for classic car, motorcycle/powersports, boat and recreation vehicle (RV) pricing and valuation data, officially announces its newly designed sections on NADAguides.com and integration of tools and content.

The site redesigns launched by NADAguides.com were based on intensive research and qualitative analysis of consumer shopping habits, valuation and related data relied upon to make confident transaction decisions.

Furthermore, behavioral trends and the true nature of how consumers interact with each respective marketplace were the key elements for the finished design.

As the largest vehicle pricing and information website, NADAguides says it provides more data for more vehicles across more categories than any other online vehicle shopping resource, and the site section redesigns further enhance these offerings.

Each site section now boasts an intuitive and streamlined navigation design, in-depth year, manufacturer and model notes; buying, insurance and ownership guides; shopping tools and added features such as social networking capabilities to help consumers connect with other consumers. These vehicle buying and selling tool enhancements make the research process on NADAguides.com easier for consumers to find the vehicle information and pricing they need to make an informed purchasing decision.
Troy Snyder, director of product development at NADAguides, says "Our goal is to provide buyers, sellers and those simply researching classic cars, powersports vehicles, boats and RVs the resources they need to make a confident transaction in a simple, intuitive and fulfilling manner. Great time has been invested in understanding the unique research needs and behaviors of each one of the respective industries presented on NADAguides.com. The data, content and tools have been designed to give the researching consumer what they seek most and efficiently. The website is truly the most comprehensive of its kind."
The RV section provides consumers with data and pricing information for travel trailers/fifth wheels, motorhomes, camping trailers, truck campers and park models dating back to 1977. Enhancements such as manufacturer notes and model specific notes provide consumers with more in-depth information, allowing them to learn more and fully understand the values they are researching. Buying guides, campground directories, towing tips and additional resources specific to RVing are also available. The newly designed RV section has experienced an increase of 20 percent in unique visitors and price reports are up 22 percent since the beginning of the year.
NADAguides (www.nadaguides.com) says it is the largest publisher of vehicle pricing and information for new and used cars, classic cars, motorcycles, boats, RVs and manufactured homes. NADAguides offers in-depth shopping and research tools in addition to the most market-reflective pricing available. The company also produces software, raw data, web services, web-syndicated products and print guidebooks.

Parent Company Closes Coleman Campers

Blackstreet Capital has shut down the FTCA plant in Somerset, Pennsylvania. The plant manufactured the complete line of Coleman camping trailers.
"Basically, after two years and a sizeable investment, the market for the trailers was not turning around. Sales were very slow," said Don Meyer, a spokesperson for Blackstreet Capital. "The folks in that market -- trailers under $10,000 -- were really hit hard by the recession and it showed no signs of recovering any time soon."
Meyer had no idea whether the company was looking for a buyer or just wishing to cut its losses. He also had no comment on whether the company had complied with the federal WARN Act by giving employees advance notice of a projected plant shutdown.
According to information on Blackstreet's website, FTCA, the manufacturer of Coleman Camping Trailers, is a $75 million manufacturer of folding camper trailers. Since 1967 FTCA, Inc. has been the premier brand in the industry-selling product originally under the Coleman brand, and then as part of Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc. The company focuses exclusively on the folding trailer market and has been a leader in the industry with new product developments and innovations.
FTCA, Inc. enjoys an extremely loyal dealer network. The business manufactures its entire product line out of its Somerset, PA headquarters. FTCA, Inc. has 21 different models categorized into four product series. The business employs over 300 people across all business disciplines. In August 2008 FTCA, Inc. entered into a licensing agreement with The Coleman Company. FTCA, Inc. is now the manufacturer of the Coleman Camping Trailer.

TrailerChix.com Designed for Women

TrailerChix.com is the first to offer an online magazine focused on the design and creative side of RVing. TrailerChix helps millions of women transform their travel trailer lifestyle into something fabulous.
“Our goal” says Shelah Johnson, TrailerChixs’ creator and managing partner “is to make it easy and comfortable for women to purchase and manage her own travel trailer experience on her own terms and without sacrificing style and elegance”.
Today’s women are looking for ways to live a much more balanced life. With an estimated 8.3 million RV owners in the USA and increasing another quarter of a million by the end of 2010, TrailerChix.com helps to move what was once the perception as a man’s toy into a versatile option for women with limitless design opportunities.
North American and parts of Europe are seeing a resurgence of travel trailers. In many parts of the world one will find five star hotels adding new and vintage Airstreams to their roof tops to serve as premium guest suites. Home owners are utilizing travel trailers as home offices, back yard studies or even guest rooms. Young entrepreneurials are rebuilding sometimes entire sections of neighborhoods by creating food malls out of vintage travel trailers and serving up some of the best food in town.
“The big market gap we saw was in what was communicated and how it was communicated to women”, said Johnson, “sure we address some of the technical things associated with trailers, like how to backup a trailer and treat your black water in a more green and sustainable way. But our true passion and value is in showing and sharing ways to live a more elegant and charmed way of life while in your trailer. We really want to help women find their ‘true self’”.
TrialerChix.com provides the tools to embrace and make the mobile lifestyle her own by offering resources and tips on cooking in small spaces, entertaining, decorating the trailer, or building a great vertical and portable outdoor garden. The site also looks at great travel destinations, tours and rallies plus great music selections to set the mode – whatever the mode. To help keep everything on track, TrailerChix.com provides a list of DIY tips for the repair and maintained to help make camping and traveling a great experience – all without the need for an interpreter.
“When you strip it down, you see that what we really are talking about is becoming more creative within a smaller footprint” Johnson says, “so our message is also really relevant to those who live on floating home or even sail boats. It’s really a message about being incredibly free to be creative for those making the conscious chose about independence.”

A new Facebook application titled Campgrounds, developed by BigFamilyVacation LLC, can help travelers find a spot to camp when they're planning their next RV adventure.
To use the application, click the interactive map to select the state to find an RV space in. The map will zoom in to show where available spots are located. The groupings are sorted by zip codes and displayed as map-pins, making the layout very easy to read.
Many RV enthusiasts use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family stated Don Sumner of BigFamilyVacation LLC.
“We know that there are now many thousands of people who are enthusiastic RV travelers, who regularly use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family, such as kids and grandkids, while on the road," Sumner said in a press release. "We think this application will provide a great resource to help them plan where to stay at their next destination.”
The application pulls information from the almost 1,400 listings on www.greatrvspaces.com.
The app does not need to access any personal information and nothing will appear on the Facebook wall saying it has been used.

Airstream Expands Lineup for 2011

Airstream Expands Lineup for 2011
Airstream introduced its expanded 2011 product line-up recently at the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.

New additions for 2011 include the Eddie Bauer Airstream travel trailer, specifically designed to bring outdoor enthusiasts closer to Mother Nature in comfort and style. Also, the International travel trailer product line has expanded to include two new floorplans; a 30-foot model, with either an L Lounge or twin recliner option, and a 23-foot front bedroom.
New UltraLeather decor options are now offered in the International Serenity as well as the popular Flying Cloud series. In addition, to support the company’s expanding Class B motorhome business, new floorplans and interior decors have been added to both the Interstate and Avenue product lines.

The entire 2011 model lineup remains true to the Airstream 80-year history of adventure and renowned quality while offering its customers more options, said Bob Wheeler, Airstream president and CEO.

“Airstream’s 2011 models were carefully thought out to cater to our expanding customer base,” he added. “Our goal with the new lineup was to stay true to our signature design attributes, but also add new features to enhance the overall travel experience.”

Eddie Bauer Airstream
With more than 160 years of combined experience, Airstream and Eddie Bauer have partnered to create the ultimate adventure travel trailer.

The Eddie Bauer Airstream includes a unique sport hatch in the rear of the trailer. The hatch allows for easy loading/unloading of oversized equipment such as bikes and kayaks which can then be secured in the fold-away dinette/lounge area. The unit is also equipped with premium oversized Michelin tires to provide greater ground clearance and rugged wheel-well cladding to protect against off-road debris.
A handheld exterior shower makes for easy clean-up for the traveler, their equipment, or their four legged-companions. Extra clotheslines and racks are intended for hanging wet clothing while durable exterior tie hooks are ideal for securing equipment or making sure Fido stays close by.

The interior features an Eddie Bauer-inspired décor, including maple and soapstone laminates, fossilized leaf pattern roof locker doors, quilted fabrics with contrast piping, as well as extremely durable and stain-resistant Sunbrella upholstery.

The 25-foot trailer can sleep four people, and its queen-size bed comes with an Eddie Bauer Goose Down duvet, pillows, and throw to provide total comfort at the end of an adventurous day. And the rear sport hatch, with its roll-down screen, creates the ultimate portal for bringing the outdoors in.

International Series
Airstream’s sophisticated and modern International category welcomes two new floor plans to its line-up in both its Signature Series and Serenity models. Perfect for Airstreamers planning for full-time or extended use, the International is now available in a spacious 30-foot floorplan. Available as an “L” Lounge or as a twin recliner option, this new floorplan is largest in the International category.

A new 23-foot front bedroom floorplan features a full size dinette, comprehensive galley and generously sized rear bathroom, providing the most spacious and functional appointments for a unit this size. For the first time, the 23-foot International features a convenient walk-around queen size bed in the front of the trailer.

Additional interior options include the new UltraLeather taupe interior selection for the Serenity model. Keeping with the tranquil décor, the new taupe option further enhances the Zen-like atmosphere.

Interstate 3500 and Avenue
Airstream’s Class B motorhome line-up includes new floor plans specifically designed to meet the consumer demand for more storage.

The new floor plan in the 2011 Interstate 3500 provides not only 18 cubic feet of storage in its full-length wardrobe but also 20 percent more countertop space for cooking. Equipped with a full galley, bathroom, and lounge area, this floorplan features 3 captain’s chairs, seating for six and sleeping for two. As always, its Mercedes Benz platform provides the ultimate in performance with its 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine.

The new floorplan for the 2011 Avenue also includes seating room for six (three in the front and three in the rear) and a full length wardrobe that features 14 cubic feat of storage. The unit, which sleeps two, is also equipped with a convenient fold down Corian desk, a full galley, bathroom and lounge area. The Avenue is built on a Chevrolet chassis and has a remarkable towing capacity of nearly 8,000 pounds.

Both the Interstate 3500 and the Avenue feature a new Light Camel décor to compliment its darker Onyx option. With their silver or white exteriors and premium aluminum forged alloy wheels, both motorhomes set a new standard in performance and luxury.
“Our brand is synonymous with innovative design, high quality, and a sense of adventure," said Wheeler."We’ve rolled all three together in our Class B motorhomes allowing more people to answer the call of the open road.”
